How to care for your printer

Back when I was younger, printers are so hard to purchase. They were too expensive and my mom would tell me, “Just give me the file (saved in a floppy disk) and I will print it in the office.” In other words, it didn’t seem to be a necessity. But now, I guess, somehow, it became one of the basic needs at home.

I believe that because of the internet era, the printer became a necessity.  Since the easiest and fastest way to get information is through online, having a printer at home is ideal so one can easily print out whatever they need.

Now, printers are way cheaper than the ones before. Some even comes with the scanner. Owning a printer is so easy nowadays however, that doesn't apply that' a defective one should be easy to replace.

I remember some people saying, printers are cheaper because they also get broken easily. I beg to disagree.

Early this year, I was able to attend a seminar about printing (all kinds of printing). Maintaining a printer isn’t so hard. Printers’ life span depends how often the consumer uses it, according to the speaker of the seminar. I couldn’t remember the exact words or list but these are the tips I remember:

Make sure that the printers are always clean (don’t let dust get in or on the printer)
Dust blocks some of the parts of the printer which makes the printer’s performance slow and/or poor.

To avoid paper jam, do not put too much paper on the paper tray
Sometimes, the papers are tightly placed together because they are too many and the feeder fails to choose just one paper.

If you will be at home or someone will be, make sure that the printer is on even though you’re not going to use it.
As far as I can remember, the speaker suggested this to avoid too much printer cleaning, ink leaks and paper jam. He explained it this way: Printers, when turned on, blows the ink (from the ink heads) to get rid of the dried inks and the paper feeder rolls. If you put your printer on and off all the time - just because you think it would be better to have it off if not used, makes the printer do what it does every time you put it on. The automatic blowing damages the ink needles causing ink leaks. Same way, as the paper feeder rolls every time you turn on the printer, it sometimes damages the rolling of the rollers.

Print at least one document every day.
This is to avoid inks drying from the ink needles. You don’t have to print an entire document; you can just print a few lines of letters or number (black & color).

Buy the respective ink for your printer
Because some of us are after saving money, buying a much cheaper ink (those continuous or those from the refills; not authentic) damages the ink needles and the tubes where the ink flows. You think you’re saving but in fact, you’re just damaging your printer and sooner or later, you’ll be deciding to buy a new one just because the older one isn’t functioning well. You’re subconsciously making wrong decisions.

There were more tips he gave but these are some of those I remember and I’m actually doing. When I first heard his tips, I thought twice of keeping it on because it might consume too much power but it didn't. Also, I noticed that my prints were better after doing these five tips compared to before when I just on it when I have to print something; no more ink leaks through my prints and lesser paper jam.

I cannot guarantee that your printer will be in 100% good performance or quality but upon my experience, my printer’s performance became better. You can try it and if you believe it didn’t work or if you know other ways on how to care for your printer, feel free to let me know through the comment box below.

Simply pretty

Honestly, I don't know how to describe my outfit last Friday. I wore this top I bought from a thrift store in Papua New Guinea. It was the Jajay's top from this post  while pairing it with my LeDonne pastel pink flats, my BNY jeans and my Sophie Martin bag. To finish up the girly look, I wore my i2i shades. I felt pretty that day. Simple but pretty. :p
