I've been wanting to attend a weaving demonstration even before this particular Lao weaving demo. I wanted to attend the Tausug, T'nalak, T'boli and Caraga weaving demonstrations before but didn't get the chance to because of my busy schedule. So when I had the chance to drop by for the Lao weaving, I grabbed it.
I wanted to attend the lecture/morning program but because I was still coming from a far place, I just made sure to be on time for the weaving demo. I came around 1:30 pm in the National Museum and I was taking the elevator when a security guard asked me (and a NM staff) if we could wait for someone. I didn't expect to be in the same elevator with Sen. Loren Legarda.
She was very approachable. She greeted me first because I became speechless upon seeing her and she started asking me questions like what's my name, where I came from, what I do for a living and all that. She even told me about her gallery in the National Museum and how she appreciates my presence there.
It was an honor to meet and speak with Kongthong Saisanith, one of the owners of Phaeng Mai (a well-known weaving business). She showed us a technique in weaving and answered our questions about weaving.
She showed us her works and explained the techniques she used. I personally like this particular textile because of its color and intricate design.
This demonstration was held in the Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Gallery (4th floor of the Museum of the Filipino People; a component museum of the National Museum of the Philippines that houses the anthropology and archaeology divisions. Located in the Agrifina Circle, Rizal Park, Manila adjacent to the main National Museum building). This gallery showcases the country’s first permanent textile gallery. In this gallery too, traditional garments from Senator Loren Legarda's personal collection are displayed here too.
Here are some of the photos from the past weaving demonstrations. Photo credits to Sen. Loren Legarda's page.

Through these demonstration, we can better appreciate not only the effort and skill of the weavers but also our, Filipinos, culture and heritage.
