Book Review: Before I Do by Kath Eustaquio-Derla

No matter how much we deny it, we, women, are actually fond of the idea of weddings: the gorgeous white long lace gown, the beautiful scented fresh flowers, the creative and unique invitation styles, the historial and solemn church, the good looking bridesmaids and groomsmen, the shiny and sometime sparkling rings, and most importantly, the moment where both families come together as one. Wedding is the fairy tale for adults but for some, it's as scary as the The Ring movie. Just like how it was for Kit Castille.
the Book

Kit Castille is a PR officer of a concert venue and the catty protagonist in Before I Do. Just like other girls who are in the right age to get married, she's being pressured by her graceless relatives as if weddings has expiration dates! Kaloka! Luckily, she has good company, one of which is her Piolo-Pascual-look-alike friend to whom she shares her daily rants and relationship problems with. Not to forget her millionaire boyfriend who buys her favorite comic books and who takes her to dinner dates in one of the sosyal malls in Manila.
It does sound perfect, doesn't it? But just like fairy tales and happy ever afters, there are stories behind it that we don't know. There are characters that come along and messes the almost perfect story. And sometimes, the person that messes up everything is the princess herself. Remember how Aurora poked herself to sleep, how Snow White took that bite, and how Cinderella left a pair shoe while running away from a ball?
Similar to these Disney princesses is our lead, Kit Castille. What could she have done to ruin her almost perfect fairy tale? Could there be an evil deathly spell, a step-mother-witch or a jealous bitchy princess from another kingdom involved? Or a new handsome prince charming who just by chance passed her kingdom and caused all the chaos? It's for you to find out.

#BeforeIDo is a hilarious and easy-read book for girls who either wants the wedding but not the responsibilities that comes with it or simply girls who still enjoys the unmarried life but are pressured by relatives during family gatherings and by beautiful wedding photos in their social media timelines.

One can literally finish reading this book in one sitting. You will not get bored. You will get so hooked with the story that you wish you have the next two books with you! What made me more enthusiastic about this book was the connection I have with Kit. I felt like I was reading a part of my life! I have been told several times that I can be very intimidating (to both women and men), stubborn and mean. Though I don't have the kind of appeal Kit has towards men, I have also dated a few men. And though I'm currently single (not in a relationship), I totally know the feeling of being pressured by relatives about not having children and for not being married at my age (26). Grrrr!
This is really a must-read book! It's funny, romantic and heart-breaking all at the same time! I will be saving up to send some copies of this book to my friends who I know can relate to Kit just like I did or simply those who are in long term relationships and are just waiting for that "Will you marry me?" question. Guguluhin ko ang mga relationship isip nila. *insert evil laugh here*
You can get a copy of the book in the following National Bookstore and Powerbooks branches (see photo below). I found out it's now also available in UniQube PH, 3F University Mall, Taft Avenue. Do not forget to Like Before I Do's Official Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/beforeidobook) for updates!

Simply pretty

Honestly, I don't know how to describe my outfit last Friday. I wore this top I bought from a thrift store in Papua New Guinea. It was the Jajay's top from this post  while pairing it with my LeDonne pastel pink flats, my BNY jeans and my Sophie Martin bag. To finish up the girly look, I wore my i2i shades. I felt pretty that day. Simple but pretty. :p
