I grew up in a family who are into arts and photography. I usually joke around saying "It runs in our blood." when people ask how I learned to take great shots. But the truth it, it's just a matter of practice and continuous learning. Each one of us has that so-called good eye in photography because we all interpret things differently. We just often fail to discover that talent.
As early as 5-7 years old, I have been holding film cameras, learning from my Uncle Jaime double exposures. Most of the time, I was his model. I enjoy taking photos of myself and taking photos of other things but since it was still film cameras then, I was always scolded by my grandmother for "wasting" the film. Haha!
When digital cameras came up, I was very happy because I could then practice my passion for photography without worrying about wasting films. I was even more happy when I reached college and found out that my chosen course had a photography subject. It was the reason why I got to own this Nikon DSLR camera.
However, after graduation, I was busy with job applications and monitoring my online store. I stopped practicing photography though I continuously used my DSLR for my online store products. And it was only recently that I started getting back for my blog photos.
As I was scrolling through Facebook when I came across a link shared by my friend which had this title cover photo:
It got my attention and even before I opened the page or even clicked the link, I knew I wanted to do this challenge. Why? Because one of my bucket list for this year would be to practice again and improve my photography skills. I want to rebuild my photography portfolio. I want to relive the passion that was almost lost. I want to accept different challenges and succeed in all of them. So I say yes to this photo challenge.
This photo challenge was created by Dale Foshe. This challenge has 3 categories: portrait, landscape and artistic impression. Here's the challenge for the first 4-weeks of the challenge:
WEEK 1
Portrait: Self Portrait
Start things off right with a "selfie"! Explore the self-timer setting on your camera.
WEEK 2
Landscape: Traditional Landscape
Shoot a beautiful landscape and share it with the world. Find a nice foreground and don't forget the sky.
WEEK 3
Artistic: Red
Shoot whatever inspires you. Red should be the focus of the image. Don't be afraid to be creative.
WEEK 4
Portrait: Headshot
You shot a selfie, now shoot a "selfie" of someone else!
You can download and view more about this challenge
here.
I'm very excited to begin this challenge. So every Sunday, expect an entry from me. I will also begin a link-up party for those who will be joining this photo challenge. :)
"Photography is an art of observation.
It has little to do with the things you see
and everything to do with the way you see them."
